Sacred Tension: Intersectional Demonology with S. Jonathon O’Donnell

In this episode I speak with religious scholar and intersectional demonologist S. Jonathon O’Donnell. We discuss their new book Passing Orders: Demonology and Sovereignty in American Spiritual Warfare, which is an examination of how American Evangelical beliefs about spiritual warfare intersect with transphobia, racism, and homophobia. 1. Great podcast. Thanks for the surprising mention. O’Donnell’s work provides a helpful framework for understanding evangelical and fundamentalist spiritual warfare frameworks. I also found the mention of the royal garden and paradise interesting as a research thread to help provide a new perspective on understanding the Genesis creation story on its own terms in an ancient near east setting outside of literal interpretations. Thanks again.
